šŸšØ OpenAI's Reply to Elon Musk

And ā†’ AI Music Video, Google, Prompt Share, and more!

Welcome back, my AI-obsessed friends.

Shake off the sleepā€”itā€™s Wednesday This is the latest issue of /Imagine, your go-to source for the freshest news and developments in AI. Hereā€™s EVERYTHING you need to know. Letā€™s dive inā€¦

šŸšØ OpenAI's Reply to Elon Musk

The Bytes:

āœ£ OpenAI shares a fiery response to Elon Muskā€™s lawsuit, reaffirming its dedication to its mission of ensuring artificial general intelligence (AGI) benefits all of humanity and systematically refuting his claims.

ā€œWe're sad that it's come to this with someone whom weā€™ve deeply admiredā€”someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us when we started making meaningful progress towards OpenAIā€™s mission without him.

We are focused on advancing our mission and have a long way to go. As we continue to make our tools better and better, we are excited to deploy these systems so they empower every individual.ā€

OpenAI

āœ£ OpenAI clarifies its funding history, stating it has raised less than $45M from Musk and more than $90M from other donors.

āœ£ The blog post details the shift from a non-profit to a for-profit entity. The most shocking development is shared emails illustrating that Musk initially supported that effort but later diverged from it, leading to his departure.

āœ£ According to the post, and contrary to what Elon has said publicly, he was in favor of making OpenAI progressively less open and even wanted to bring it into Tesla as a subsidiary.

Why you should care: This is the most interesting battle in AI right now, and OpenAI brought receipts. Many thought this lawsuit would halt the progress of OpenAI, but it seems they are more determined than ever, and refute Elonā€™s claims entirely. Honestly, the emails shared in the article go directly against what Elon has been saying in public. Get the popcorn ready. This is the first blow thrown in what will ultimately be an interesting fight.

šŸ‘€ AI x 30 Seconds To Mars

The Bytes:

āœ£ We love Nicolas Neubert and have shared his work in our newsletter before. Well, he took his AI video skills to the next level today and partnered with Jared Leto and 30 Seconds to Mars for an AI music video.
āœ£ The visuals from start to finish were created entirely in Runway.

āœ£ This approach marks a significant shift from traditional music video production, offering efficiency and the ability to create what canā€™t be filmed.

Why you should care: Look, it is still clearly AI, and we have a long way to go, but this is awesome. The use of AI in music video production by Thirty Seconds to Mars is a testament to the bandā€™s innovative spirit, and the progress the tools are making. As AI continues to make inroads into the arts, we can expect to see more artists adopting this technology to push the boundaries of storytelling and visual expression. By 2025, it will be weirder to see a video created entirely without AI than with.

šŸ” Googleā€™s Search Update: Prioritizing Quality Over AI Spam

The Bytes:

āœ£ Google is rolling out a new tweak to its search ranking systems, aiming to promote high-quality content and give the boot to spammy AI-generated material.

āœ£ This move is part of Googleā€™s ongoing efforts to combat manipulative tactics used to game its ranking algorithms and combat its massive AI problem in the search department.

Why you should care: Letā€™s face it, search is under attack. Googleā€™s latest search update is significant for both users and content creators. It ensures that users receive more meaningful search results. This shift could lead to a better internet ecosystem, where quality is rewarded over quantity. That being said, itā€™s also why in this post-AI world we live in, to organize the Internetā€™s information and make it useful, they may have to pivot entirely to something new like what Arc or Perplexity are doing.
