Gemini 1.5 Pro AI Comes Out From Sora's Shadow

And → DomoAI Video-to-Video, Open Letter on AI, Midjourney Guide, and more!

Welcome back, my AI-obsessed friends.

Rise and shineit’s Monday. This is the latest issue of /Imagine, your go-to source for the freshest news and developments in AI. Here’s EVERYTHING you need to know. Let’s dive in…

🪄 Gemini 1.5 Pro Gets in Hands of Creators

The Bytes:

✣ Gemini 1.5 Pro’s Update: Remember last week we covered the buzz about Google DeepMind’s Gemini 1.5 Pro? Well, it’s back with a bang and was given to a select group of creators to test out. Rowan Cheung got access and gave one of my favorite breakdowns of the new tool on X. Here are some things he used it for:

  • Video Analysis: Gemini 1.5 Pro successfully analyzed the entire 2024 NBA dunk contest, identifying the highest-scoring dunk with precision based on its long-context video comprehension.

  • Comparative Literature: The model demonstrated its literary prowess by comparing and contrasting full movie transcripts from “Interstellar” and “Ad Astra,” aiding in movie selection.

  • Linguistic Translation: Showcasing its linguistic capabilities, translating English into Saterlandic, a rare language spoken by fewer than 2000 people, using a comprehensive linguistic manual.

  • AI Content Detection: It distinguished an OpenAI Sora video as AI-generated, providing an in-depth analysis of the factors contributing to this determination.

  • Academic Interpretation: The model extracted and explained a specific figure from a lengthy academic paper, demonstrating its ability to focus on and elucidate detailed information.

  • Inspirational Quotes: Gemini 1.5 Pro parsed the entire “Interstellar” movie transcript and highlighted the three most inspiring quotes, reflecting its deep contextual understanding.

Why You Should Care: While initially Gemini 1.5 Pro was overshadowed by OpenAI’s Sora last week. Its advanced capabilities are probably the biggest LLM leap forward this year. The 1 million token context window is going to change the game.

🌍 The Elders’ Call for Action: A United Front Against AI Existential Threats

The Bytes:

The Elders, an NGO founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007, released an open letter urging world leaders to adopt a long-view approach to address existential threats of artificial intelligence.

✣ Prominent Signatories: The open letter’s signatories include influential figures such as Richard Branson, Charles Oppenheimer, Elon Musk, Mary Robinson, the former President of Ireland; and more.

✣ A Unified Voice: The letter calls for courageous decision-making and a commitment to addressing the pressing challenges of our time, artificial intelligence chief among them.

Why You Should Care: It seems like we are advancing years in weeks in AI. The Elders’ open letter is a powerful reminder, that even though we are passionate about an exciting future with AI, we have a collective responsibility to safeguard the future of humanity. It’s a call to action that resonates across generations and political divides, urging a shift toward responsible and visionary leadership.

/Imagination of The Day: Let's finish the day with something creative. Today, I’m showing how well Midjourney recreates superheroes/Marvel characters in a realistic style. Check it out:

Prompt Share: Realistic Deadpool sitting in a meditative pose + on a cloud + focus on his eyes, incredible detail --ar 4:5 --s 750 --v 6.0 --style raw
