Claude 3 Unveiled! 👀

And → OpenAI, Elon Musk, Microsoft, tutorial, and more!

Welcome back, my AI-obsessed friends.

Shake off the sleep—it’s Tuesday. This is the latest issue of /Imagine, your go-to source for the freshest news and developments in AI. Here’s EVERYTHING you need to know. Let’s dive in…

🤖 Meet Claude 3: Anthropic’s Colossal Leap Forward

The Bytes:

Anthropic introduces the Claude 3 model family, setting new benchmarks in AI capabilities. The lineup includes Claude 3 Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus, each offering varying levels of performance and speed.

✣ Claude 3 Opus excels in complex tasks, showcasing near-human comprehension and fluency. Opus outperforms ChatGPT 4 on almost every benchmark.

✣ It will initially have a 200k context window at launch, but all three models are capable of inputs exceeding 1 million freaking tokens.

✣ One of the previous issues with Claude was its refusal rate. That all changes with this latest update. With fewer refusals and more nuanced understanding, these models represent a significant advancement for Anthropic.

✣ Its smallest model Haiku benchmarks almost as well as GPT4, but it’s almost 40x cheaper. Builders are taking note.

Why you should care: The Claude 3 family represents a significant leap forward for Anthropic as a whole and will push the space forward, and potentially force OpenAI to ship GPT5 sooner. Whether you’re a developer, a content creator, or an enterprise user, the new capabilities of Claude 3 models promise to enhance productivity and creativity. With my early tests, I have been incredibly impressed with it thus far. To use the star of the show, Opus, you have to be a pro subscriber ($20/month).

👀 Elon Musk vs. Sam Altman

The Bytes:

✣ Elon Musk has initiated a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging they veered off from the company’s original mission and defrauded early donors in the process.

✣ The lawsuit spotlights a contentious claim: OpenAI’s cozying up to Microsoft for profit, compromising its founding goal to benefit humanity.

✣ Musk, a co-founder of OpenAI who stepped down from the board in 2018, is seeking to steer the company back to its original open-source beginnings.

Why you should care: This legal battle isn’t merely a dispute between tech titans; it’s a spotlight on OpenAI’s journey from a non-profit to a for-profit, and potentially, a subsidiary under one of the globe’s most valuable corporations, Microsoft. Like, is that legal? 😂 This trajectory raises profound questions about the integrity of OpenAI’s mission and the commitments made to its initial supporters. This drama is going to be interesting to watch unfold. Where do you land on it all?
